Air Fryer French Toast Bagels

//
alt_text

Air Fryer French Toast Bagels are sweet, savory and a delicious, high protein breakfast option. The dough is made with plain nonfat greek yogurt and flavored with cinnamon and nutmeg. The bagels are brushed with a maple and coconut palm sugar glaze before air frying, which gives the tops a sweet and crackly texture. Once toasted I like to spread them with a maple bacon cream cheese (recipe included). This recipe yields 4 bagels.

Making quick and easy bagels has become a low-key obsession.

It started with these everything bagels, then cinnamon raisin, pumpkin spice, and most recently, jalapeño cheddar. The dough is simple and totally customizable. From sweet to savory, it’s really only limited to the imagination.

My latest and greatest bagel creation is this French toast version. The bagel is spiced with cinnamon and nutmeg, shaped into bagels and brushed with a maple and coconut sugar glaze before a quick trip to the air fryer. And if that wasn’t enough, I decided to whip up a simple maple bacon cream cheese to slather on it.

To. Die. For.

To Make The Maple Bacon Cream Cheese You Will Need:

  • whipped cream cheese
  • bacon
  • maple syrup

alt

Cook 3 to 4 strips of bacon until crispy. I’m using center cut bacon. Once crispy, drain on some paper towel then finely chop.

alt

In a mixing bowl, add 8 ounces whipped cream cheese, the chopped bacon and 1 tablespoon pure maple syrup.

alt

Stir to combine. Cover and refrigerate until ready to use.

alt

Make The Bagels:

In a mixing bowl, measure and add 1 cup unbleached all-purpose flour, 2-1/4 teaspoons baking powder, 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon, 1/2 teaspoon fine salt and 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg.

alt

Whisk to combine.

alt

Add 1 cup plain nonfat greek yogurt.

alt

Use a spatula to mix until.

alt

Stir and shape into a ball.

alt

Transfer the dough to a generously floured surface, then divide it into 4 equal pieces.

alt

Roll each piece in flour. The dough is pretty sticky, so don’t be shy about needing to use more flour.

alt

Then roll each piece into a 9 to 10-inch rope.

alt

Connect the ends and pinch to secure.

alt

Repeat with the remaining pieces.

alt

In a small bowl, combine 2 tablespoons maple syrup, 1 tablespoons coconut palm sugar and 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon.

alt

Stir to combine.

alt

Brush this maple mixture over the top and sides of each bagel.

alt

Use the remaining tablespoon of coconut sugar and generously sprinkle over top of each bagel.

Preheat your air fryer to 300°.

alt

Place the bagels in or on your air fryer insert. I’m using parchment, but only use parchment paper designed for air fryers and NEVER preheat your air fryer with parchment paper inside. Work in batches (if need be) and air fry for 12 minutes.

alt

Remove and repeat with the remaining bagels if necessary.

alt

Slice in half and toast!

HOW TO TOAST YOUR BAGELS IN THE AIR FRYER:

Increase the heat of your air fryer to 360°.

Swipe the cut side with butter (or if using cream cheese, lightly spray with olive oil instead or simply omit this step) and pop the two halves into your preheated air fryer. Air fry for 2 to 4 minutes or until desired toasty-ness.

alt

Slather with butter, cream cheese or maple bacon cream cheese.

Recipe for the maple bacon cream cheese is below the bagel recipe at the end of this post.
